Population Europe Secretariat

Population Europe is a collaborative network of the leading demographic research centres in Europe. The currently 26 partner institutions pursue research into policy-relevant issues of population development. Through our publications (websites, newsletters, discussion papers, policy-briefs, white papers, etc.) and the Population Europe Events series in Brussels and other European capitals we aim to provide the policy audience with information about the most recent research findings on demographic change (for more information see www.population-europe.eu).

The Population Europe Secretariat is hosted by the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science. Our office is situated in the WissenschaftsForum Berlin at the Gendarmenmarkt.

For our team we seek two

Student Assistants (working time: 40 hours per month)

for the period from 1 July 2013 to 31 December 2013 (with the possibility of a six-month extension, dependent on performance).

Tasks

You will support the team of the Population Europe Secretariat. The tasks include drafting various documents for our outreach activities, editing and proofreading texts and PowerPoint presentations, conducting research using electronic and print resources, general communication assistance, and database work. You will also be involved in the organisation of events, workshops, and meetings.

Profile

As these tasks require (in addition to strong English skills) outstanding French and Spanish language abilities, applications of French and Spanish native speakers (or equivalent proficiency level) are particularly encouraged. A background in the social sciences and interest in issues of demographic change and population studies are desirable. A solid knowledge of standard Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required. Experience in Social Media is welcome. For one of the positions, experience with graphics software (Adobe Photoshop and Indesign CS5 or above) would be useful.
