Tasks
- To ensure high safety standards in the area of responsibility and to proactively develop safety awareness for others in the laboratory at all times.
- In collaboration with the Group Leader and/or Project Co-ordinator, to decide upon and prioritise the broad chemical areas to be investigated. To implement and monitor the progress of the agreed programs and give regular progress reports. To propose work packages for external partners (intermediates, libraries).
- To lead, where assigned, or actively participate in the progress of research projects giving respect to the research organisation principles and in close co-operation with the Group Leader and/or Project Co-ordinator
- To lead by example and manage a lab-team of chemists (typically 1-2 technicians and/or 1 trainee) with the objective to design and synthesize innovative fungicides. To set objectives and for the members of the team, to prioritise, develop and ensure operational excellence of the team.
- To prepare and ensure appropriate management of research documentation (results, reports,…) within the area of responsibility and to help to establish intellectual property protection where appropriate in collaboration with the Group Leader.
- To actively support the department through collective, managerial or other more general tasks.
Who you are
- Owning a PhD level in Organic Chemistry (or equivalent diploma), you own an experience in a similar position for at least 3 years in Agrochemical research or a closely related field.Optionally, you have an extra experience as a postdoc in an internationally renowned research group.
- You have an experience working in a rapidly developing, highly technology-driven and dynamic multidisciplinary and multicultural research environment.
- You have a very good knowledge of the scientific databases for literature searches (e.g. CAS, Scifinder, ISIS, or comparable tools) and of Drug Design principles. Having also some understanding of other Research disciplines (biology, biochemistry, physico-chemistry) would be very appreciated for this position.
- Owning good interpersonal and communication skills, you also have basic leadership skills such as coaching, motivating, direction setting.
- Fluent English & basic knowledge in French are mandatory for the position.
